Bio/Description

John Mohr (PhD, Yale 1992) is a Professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of California, Santa Barbara. John was a visitor at CSSO for the month of March 2015. His primary interest is in the empirical study of institutional meaning systems. He has studied Progressive Era and New Deal poverty institutions, affirmative action programs at the University of California, rhetorical logics in U.S. National Security Strategy Statements, the ritual practices of Buddhists in a Spanish Monastery, and the alternative cultures of love among students in an American University. He is currently the co-PI on a National Science Foundation IGERT (PhD Training Grant) on Network Science and Big Data.
